The Northern Elite

[ OVERVIEW ]

The Northern Elite is a Toronto volleyball academy founded by Canadian Olympian Sophie Bukovec. Built the brand, the digital experience and the inbound funnel end to end, turning traffic into camp registrations and athletes who come back season after season.

[ THE CHALLENGE ]

"BUILD THE DEMAND, THEN TURN IT INTO ATHLETES WHO COME BACK."

[ THE CONTEXT ]

Nothing existed

No brand kit, no site, no way to capture a lead or take a registration

Invisible in search

Nothing ranking for the volleyball academy and camp searches parents and athletes across Toronto and the GTA were already running

Good enough to fill itself

An Olympian-founded program with the coaching to back it, with no digital front door for anyone to find it through

[ WHAT WE WERE UP AGAINST ]

"Sophie had a program good enough to fill itself but no way to convert interest into registrations, and no digital presence competing for the searches parents and athletes were already running."

[ WHAT I DID ]

MOVE 01 / BRAND

Built the brand and the strategy first

Brand kit and guide before any page went up, so every page and every piece of content afterwards shipped against a defined standard.

MOVE 02 / FUNNEL

Designed the whole path

Traffic to landing page to form fill to enriched athlete data to automated follow-up to a registration on a dated camp, with each step built to serve the one after it.

MOVE 03 / OPTIMISATION

Rebuilt it around speed and conversion

Tightened page speed, calls to action, landing page copy and the capture flow, which is what eventually moved the site off WordPress and onto Next.js, Tailwind and Vercel.

THE breakdown.

[ THE BREAKDOWN ]
THE NORTHERN ELITE ATHLETICS ACADEMY REGISTRATION & CAMP PLATFORM

THE NORTHERN ELITE ATHLETICS ACADEMY REGISTRATION & CAMP PLATFORM

MULTI-STEP ATHLETE REGISTRATION FUNNEL & CAMP SELECTION FORM

MULTI-STEP ATHLETE REGISTRATION FUNNEL & CAMP SELECTION FORM

01. BRAND KIT

Built the brand kit and guide first, so the site and all content shipped against a defined standard.

02. CONTENT & LANDING PAGE

Professional video shot at the camps, plus compilation videos and wide shots for hero sections and elsewhere on the site. Landing page built around that footage.

03. SITE ARCHITECTURE

Full multi-page site. About Us covering mission, values, philosophy, skill-based grouping and college prep. Team page with coaching staff credentials so athletes know who they'll work with. Programs page as the funnel entry: available programs, registration, and athlete detail capture.

04. FUNNEL & AUTOMATION

Traffic captured to form fills, athlete information enriched at capture, automated email triggered after submission, athletes registered to specific camp dates, then driven to attend. Originally WordPress plugins, now Web3Forms and Formspree.

05. SEO & ORGANIC

SEO structure built to compete for volleyball academy and program keywords across Toronto and the GTA. Organic recognition comes from social content plus search, and is what's driving oversubscription in top months.

06. REBUILD & ROADMAP

Migrated from WordPress CMS to Next.js, Tailwind and Vercel. Roadmap: restructure for Canada-wide expansion with West Coast and East Coast camps, and possibly add live chat.

[ VALIDATION ]

Proved that athletes and parents would register for an elite camp entirely online. The digital funnel replaced manual signup, widened reach into markets the program could not previously advertise to, and showed that pairing a digital experience with social content brings in new leads rather than just serving existing ones.

[ REFLECTION ]

Lead flow needed a single source of truth. There was no CRM in place, so contacts were never organised against the camps they attended or the programs they registered for. Putting one in from the start would have made it possible to tailor what each athlete was offered next, and to develop returning athletes across multiple seasons rather than treating each camp as a standalone signup.

[ NEXT STEPS ]

Build the systems and processes to scale the brand nationally, with camps on both the East and West Coasts.
